Open Google Maps anywhere in Dubai and count the pins. The city has more than 13,000 food and beverage outlets, and KPMG has estimated its density at about 2,935 F&B outlets per million residents — second only to Paris in that comparison. Nearly 1,200 new restaurant licences were reportedly issued in 2024 alone.
“Great food and friendly service” doesn’t stand out in that crowd. Every restaurant says it. Here’s a marketing system for a Dubai restaurant or café that wants to be chosen — not just found.
1. Own a moment, not a cuisine
People don’t search for “a restaurant”. They search for a moment: a quick business lunch near DIFC, a family Friday brunch with space for strollers, a late coffee after Taraweeh, a date night with a view. The restaurants that win are the obvious answer to one or two moments.
| Moment | Who | What they need to hear |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday business lunch | Office workers within 10 minutes | Set menu, 45-minute service, easy booking |
| Family weekend brunch | Families in nearby communities | Kids’ menu, space, parking, booking |
| Iftar and suhoor in Ramadan | Families, friends, companies | Set menus, group bookings, timings |
| Late-night coffee | Young residents, students | Hours, vibe, seating, Wi-Fi |
Pick your top two. Every post, ad and offer for the next quarter should feel like the answer to one of them.
2. Fix your real homepage: Google
For most diners, your Google Business Profile is your website. BrightLocal’s 2026 survey found 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses, and more of them now only consider places rated 4.5 stars or higher.
- Accurate hours (including Ramadan and holiday hours — update them every year).
- Real photos: dishes, interior, terrace, the people. Refresh monthly.
- Menu link and booking or WhatsApp link.
- A review system: ask happy guests at the table with a QR code, and follow up by message after bookings.
- Reply to every review within 48 hours — politely, specifically, in the reviewer’s language.
3. Instagram that makes people hungry (and book)
Instagram is still where Dubai decides where to eat. A weekly rhythm that works:
- 1 dish hero reel — sizzling, pouring, cutting. Sound on.
- 1 people post — the chef, the barista, a regular (with permission).
- 1 moment post — “Your Friday brunch, sorted” with the booking link.
- Stories daily — today’s specials, polls, behind the scenes.
Post in English and Arabic if Arab families are part of your crowd — written for each reader, not translated. Grab ready-made lines from our 60 Arabic Instagram captions.
4. Fill quiet slots with precision, not discounts
Blanket discounts teach regulars to wait for deals. Target the slot instead:
- Find your three quietest slots (e.g. Monday–Wednesday lunch).
- Identify who is nearby and free then (offices, residents, students).
- Create a slot-specific offer: a business set menu, a “bring a colleague” deal, a quiz night.
- Run small location-targeted Meta ads (a few kilometres radius) to that audience, with a booking link.
- Measure bookings from the offer — not likes.
5. Turn first-timers into regulars
Most restaurants spend on finding new guests and nothing on bringing them back. Capture contact details with consent — bookings, Wi-Fi sign-ins, a birthday club — and set up a few simple automations:
- Thank-you message after the first booking with a review link.
- Birthday offer a week before their birthday.
- “We miss you” after 60 days without a visit — with a new dish, not just a discount.
More in 7 marketing automations to set up first.
6. Plan around the Gulf calendar
Ramadan, Eid, National Day, summer and the winter season change footfall more than any campaign. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027; corporate iftar bookings start weeks earlier. Use our Ramadan 2027 marketing plan and UAE National Day ideas.
7. Answer every message fast
“Do you have a table for 6 at 8?” is a booking waiting to happen. If it sits in Instagram DMs for four hours, it goes to the place next door. A website AI chat can answer hours, menu and location questions instantly and collect booking requests; your team confirms. In a YouGov poll, 85% of UAE residents said they prefer WhatsApp for contacting businesses — make that button impossible to miss.
The monthly restaurant marketing scorecard
- Bookings by source (Google, Instagram, ads, WhatsApp, walk-in)
- New Google reviews and average rating
- Covers in your target slots vs last month
- Returning-guest bookings
- Cost per booking from ads
How Cotnek helps restaurants
Ask Cotnek for “this weekend’s brunch post for Instagram, in Arabic and English” or “a month of Instagram ideas for Ramadan”, and save the drafts to your content calendar. It can build a location-targeted Meta campaign for a quiet-slot offer, ready to launch in Ads Manager, and design a landing page for group or iftar bookings with a WhatsApp button. Booking enquiries from the page and your website chat land in one place, and automations handle the thank-you and review requests.
